We are determined to transform the life prospects of young people in the UK, building on over 20 years of experience and continuing to evolve our programmes to meet today’s challenges.
We are a charity that works in state schools and under-served communities to deliver best-in-class cricket programmes to young people aged 5 to 24. We want them to learn a love of the game and to find a sense of belonging through the sport, developing their wider wellbeing and life skills to help fulfil their potential.
Moving forward, our focus remains firmly on reaching children from disadvantaged backgrounds through our two core programmes in primary schools and Street clubs. That means a continued focus on under-served communities, reflecting a deep understanding of local need, and supporting lifelong participation in sport and physical activity.
Continuously improve delivery and sustainability, prioritising under-served communities
Strengthen Street clubs to further meet the needs of under-served communities
Secure new funding and test innovative delivery and partnership models
A commitment to achieving improved Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) has been central to our work since the start and has shaped our current strategy. Being inclusive has and always will be at our heart: it is one of our core values.
Too many children and young people are missing out on the many benefits of being active and playing sport. Less than half of children and young people meet government guidelines for activity – and disadvantaged groups are significantly less likely to be active than their peers. That is why Chance to Shine programmes focus on those facing the greatest inequalities. By giving all children and young people a positive experience of cricket, we are helping promote lifelong participation in sport and physical activity, with ongoing benefits to health and wellbeing.
Our Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan for 2024-2028 describes our priorities across these three commitments.

“Chance to Shine has a lot to be proud of on EDI. I’m delighted to work with the team and our partners to build on this; meet the commitments set out in the DIAP; and ensure we are agile in flexing our approach in a changing world”.
Emma Bernstein, EDI Board Champion
Youth voice is at the heart of our work and reflected in our Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan
The Chance to Shine Youth Advisory Board (YAB) is a group of passionate 16–24-year-olds from across the country who help shape the charity’s work and ensure young people’s voices are heard at every level.
Whether it’s informing the design of current and future programmes, or supporting events, YAB members play a vital role in making Chance to Shine more inclusive, relevant and impactful for young people.
Through our programme evaluations, we get feedback from children and young people (and their parents and teachers). All of this informs continuous improvement, learning and future plans.
Help shape Chance to Shine programmes by sharing insights into young people’s needs and experiences.
