Chance to Shine gets an A* 2011 Report Card

2011 has been another incredible year at Chance to Shine! We’ve worked in 3,807 schools and had nearly 350,000 children involved in Chance to Shine in just this year alone. There has been over 45,000 structured cricket matches, double the amount from 2010.

Providing secondary schools with hard-ball competition was a key focus this year. To provide this we piloted a secondary schools’ hardball competition, with the final being played under lights at Northamptonshire County Cricket Club. For many taking part, it was their first experience of playing on a grass wicket.

This year’s operations report shows that Chance to Shine is continuing to lead the way, with David Cameron, Prime Minister saying earlier this year: “I think sport can play a huge role [in helping young people] – cricket’s a good example, Chance to Shine has been a fantastic programme.”

Highlights of this year’s national report include:

Chance to Shine has worked in 3,807 schools

347,390 children coached (46% of whom were girls)

45,218 matches played

12,532 children joined cricket clubs in 2011
