national cricket week | 17-21 June

Every year, pupils all over the country enjoy a week of cricket-themed activity in the classroom, on the playground and in local communities. In 2024, National Cricket Week takes place 17-21 June.

National cricket starts IN...

What is National Cricket Week?

It’s an opportunity to celebrate the sport, inspire children to take part in cricketing activities and show them why the sport can be a game for everyone. Whether you’re a seasoned player, a passionate fan, or someone who’sjust curious about this fantastic game, there’s something for everyone. National Cricket Week is also an opportunity to showcase the work that Chance to Shine does in bringing the game to hundreds of thousands of children every year.

How you can get involved

Sign up for the Chance to Shine  Portal - our bank of teaching resources for primary and secondary schools.

All resources are completely free, fun and accessible - you don’t need to be a cricket expert to get involved. Whether it’s a playground challenge, a quick skills session or a whole school activity there’s something for everyone.

This National Cricket Week, we’ll also be launching a brand new resource package for under fives!

‘Here Come the Bright Sparks’ is a resource package which is aimed at supporting the Physical Development of children in Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The resources include an animation; ‘Charlie the Confident Cricketer’s story’, alongside four Physical Development focussed cricket themed short stories.

Sign up to our Portal today and we’ll contact you in the run up to National Cricket Week with a link to all the free resources.

Why choose cricket?

Cricket is more than just a game; it’s a cultural phenomenon that brings people together across boundaries of age, gender, and nationality. We know that children and young people of all ages benefit from the outcomes cricket can provide from increased physical and mental wellbeing to improve confidence and being part of a team.

National Cricket Week is a time to celebrate everything that makes cricket such a special sport. Whether you’re a player, a fan, or someone curious to learn more, there’s never been a better time to get involved. So grab your bat, lace up your shoes, and join us in celebrating the spirit of cricket during National Cricket Week!

Sports star friday

This year, National Cricket Week coincides with the Youth Sport Trust’s National School Sports Week which aims to raise awareness of the need for 60 minutes a day of PE, Sport and Play for every child.

We’re encouraging everyone to get involved in Sports Star Friday on Friday 21 June. Encouraging everyone to go to school, or work, showing how they like to get active with a sporty themed dress up day. On this special day, you’re invited to dress up as your favourite sporting hero or sport.

It’s easy to get involved! Simply don your sports gear, gather your friends, colleagues, classmates, or pupils, and join us for a day filled with fun.
