Chance to Compete

A chance for secondary school pupils to play competitive cricket.

Chance to Compete is our national secondary school cricket competition, designed to give state school pupils across the country the opportunity to play fast-paced, fun cricket in a competitive setting.  

The competition is delivered across the country in partnership with our delivery partner network, and are designed with a focus on girls’ progression and development.

Chance to Compete Formats

Girls Outdoor (U13 & U15)

A flagship of the Chance to Compete calendar, the Girls Outdoor competition sees county winners progress to Regional Finals held across the country. Played with a soft ball, this format mirrors the wider game and gives girls the chance to experience cricket in a high-quality, inspiring setting. 

Regional Finals take towards the end of the summer term, and are often played at professional venues like Edgbaston, Trent Bridge and Chester-le-Street.

Year 7 Open Competition

The Year 7 Open is a soft-ball competition focused on supporting the transition from Primary to Secondary school. This is a crucial stage where many young people will get the opportunity to continue their competitive experiences from primary school into an inclusive but structured format. 

Events run April–July with 20 Delivery Partners delivering local competitions and progression through county pathways. 

Indoor Open Tape Ball (U13 & U15)

Following a successful pilot in 2024, this fast-paced, inclusive tape ball format is rolling out nationally. With a strong link to Street cricket, these events are designed to bring this fun, inclusive format of cricket an to even greater audience. 

We run Chance to Compete indoor open tape ball events across England and Wales. The games use a modified Street20 format and take place in school sports halls, leisure centres and indoor domes
